Good Neighbours Co-Housing (GNCH) is tackling Kingston's housing crisis differently — by starting with values, not vacancy. Rather than simply filling available units, GNCH matches residents based on shared values and compatibility before they move in together. The result is more stable households, stronger communities, and housing that actually sticks.

Programs

Covenant Housing

Senior-focused co-housing built on trusts and covenants that preserve permanent affordability. Residents maintain control over their housing and end-of-life decisions, supporting aging in place with dignity.

Shared Housing

Mixed-income households formed around shared values rather than availability. Residents — including those on fixed incomes like ODSP and CPP — share meals, gardens, and community life.

HomeMADE Housing

An Ontario-wide nonprofit model originally built for senior women, now expanding into Kingston through formal landlord partnerships. A proven, replicable approach to dignified affordable housing.

Weathering Centres

Community hubs embedded in every GNCH home, offering food rescue access, dry goods storage, and volunteer opportunities. Housing and food security — integrated by design, not as an afterthought.

Why LCCH partners with Good Neighbours

GNCH is a sister project to LCCH — both are part of Kingston's Dignified Housing Strategy and share a conviction that housing should be more than a transaction. Where LCCH focuses on building new co-operative housing from the ground up, Good Neighbours creates community within existing housing stock by carefully matching who lives together.

The Weathering Centres embedded in every GNCH home connect directly with Kingston Food Rescue, creating a full loop: stable housing, food access, and social connection — all in the same place. This is the integrated model both organizations believe in.
